The Common Good Soup Kitchen relies on the the community as much as it strives to give back to the community. As much as we seek to provide nutrition meals and a friendly atmosphere for social events, we ourselves rely on the generosity of others. Our needs consist of such things as volunteer labor, donated produce, and financial support. We are a nonprofit organization and as such have no income except for the generosity of both guests and sponsors.
We need volunteers who are willing to work in areas such as:
sous chefs
housekeepers
dishwashers
front room management
cleanup crew
soup delivery drivers
shoppers
We happily accept all donations of produce including:
vegetables
fruits
beans
grains
eggs
spices
fresh or dried herbs
local natural meats, poultry and seafood
We do ask that all food donations be of high-quality such as you would serve yourself for your family. Produce donations may be dropped off at the
rear door of the
Common Good Soup Kitchen on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Other days are available if prior contact is made and an appointment arranged. We ask your cooperation with this so that food is not left uncared for to potentially spoil.
The Common Good Soup Kitchen is entirely independently financed through donations. We receive no monies from the government whether state or federal. While we do present guests with a opportunity to donate financially by means of donation bowls at each event, this seldom meets our financial requirements to hold such events. As seen in the graph below, our monthly budget is approximately
$3300.
To meet that budget, we rely on voluntary donations and holding fund-raising events. As popular as the fund-raising events are, they in themselves carry a burden of expense. Therefore the most effective form of financial support is the voluntary gifts. To facilitate this, the Common Good Soup Kitchen has established a PayPal account and an online credit card account that accepts both one-time donations and recurring donations. Donations may also be sent directly to Common Good Soup Kitchen by mail in the form of check or money order.

So please remember that the Common Good Soup Kitchen exists in a symbiotic relationship with the communities that we serve. We rely on the generosity of the people and communities of Mount Desert Island in order for us to provide generously to those selfsame communities.
